Gratitude: As We Have Been Given, So We Give - 10th Anniversary Barrett Conference on the Ministry of All Women - with Carol Christ

As we bless the Source of life, we are blessed.

from a Jewish New Moon ritual

We are pleased to announce that Carol Christ, well-known leader in the women's spirituality movement will be the leader of our 10th Anniversary conference. Carol will lead the retreat exploring the theme of the circle and cycle of giving and gift.

The circle of giving and receiving is the circle of life. In a thoroughly relational world, the Divine is Giver of Life, the One who feels the feelings of the world, and who calls us to feel the feelings of others. Where Mother Earth is honored as the Giver of Life, rituals affirm the circle of giving and receiving. We give back to Mother Earth and we give to each other because we have already been given the gift of life.

The intention for the retreat is to create a view of life anchored in gratitude, resilient to challenges of life, resulting in ethical and compassionate action.

The Barrett Conferences honoring the Ministry of All Women have powerfully addressed issues of critical importance for Women in the 21st century. The conferences celebrate women's gifts to the world through the work that they do with love and compassion, filled with Spirit. This is what we call ministry.

Each conference includes time for ritual, presentations, circle dialogue, movement and expressive arts, as well as quiet reflective time. It is a time for building intimate community with passionate women of spirit - drawing forth our soul's deep longing for peace, bridging differences, and healing ourselves and the planet.

Retreat Leader:

Carol Christ, Ph.D., is a pioneer and founding mother of women's spirituality and feminist theology movements. Currently she lives in Crete, where she experiences daily the profound Cretan tradition of giving whose origins are in ancient Cretan rituals centered on the offering of the first fruits and grains in gratitude for the abundant generosity of Mother Earth.

Carol was educated at Yale, and she has taught at major universities in the US, including Columbia University, Harvard Divinity School and the California Institute of Integral Studies.

Carol is best known for her influential books: She Who Changes, Rebirth of the Goddess, and Diving Deep and Surfacing. She is co-editor of Womanspirit Rising and Weaving the Visions.

For over fifteen years she has led Goddess Pilgimages in Crete. (www.goddessariadne.org)
